Summary: KSNV-TV Channel 3 is reporting about 100 people were sickened or had a hard time breathing after a chemical leak at the MGM Grand pool. Fire officials say 12 people were sent to the hospital and about 200 people were evacuated from the pool area. Judge Recommends $12M Settlement
Created on 27-Aug-10 17:06.
Summary: I thought this was really interesting in light of the recent egg recall. The USA Today is reporting that “a federal judge is recommending approval of a $12 million settlement for those sickened or killed in last year's salmonella outbreak tied to a Virginia-based peanut processor.”
When will companies act responsibly?
Created on 27-Aug-10 13:29.
Summary: According to the NY Times, the Food and Drugs Administration has been getting complaints about the failure of hip replacements products made by Johnson & Johnson for the last two years. Since the start of 2008, the FDA says it’s received about 400 complaints from people who received these devices. Now the company says it’s recalling these products because data shows “higher-than-expected rates” of patients needing a revision surgery.
Evidence of salmonella outbreak seen earlier
Created on 26-Aug-10 12:51.
Summary: The USA Today says federal health officials knew an Iowa egg company was likely a source of illness 2 weeks before they announced the major egg recall to the public. The article explains that in July the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “even considered reminding the public generally about the dangers of eating undercooked eggs” but “the CDC decided it would be more effective to wait until the Food and Drug Administration completed its investigation of the company, Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa.”
Are You Smarter than a Teen Driver?
Created on 25-Aug-10 12:43.
Summary: It’s hard to believe but car crashes are the number one killer of teens… not drugs or gangs violence. My office has handled numerous cases where teens were hurt in an accident or after a teen driver hurt another innocent driver. And now with texting, cell phone technology, and televisions in the cars, teen drivers are more distracted than ever before.
