Should New Mexico “Revenge Billboard” Be Protected By Free Speech?

Recently a man in New Mexico put up a billboard revealing personal details about the relationship between himself and an ex-girlfriend. The billboard has created controversy worldwide and touched off a debate in our country about the first amendment and what constitutes free speech. Should a “revenge billboard” be considered protected speech or should this be classified as unprotected speech (in the same vein as slander and defamation)?
