A man was killed near the Las Vegas airport after another motorist drove the wrong way, according to an arrest report. The suspect told law enforcement that she had “a couple” glasses of wine before the crash.
The crash happened at 2:11 a.m. on Jan. 17. Ciera Brawer, 20, drove the wrong way on the northbound airport connector and I-215. Brawer was arrested and charged with DUI resulting in death.
Brawer was driving a burgundy Chevrolet Cruzethe wrong way, which resulted in crashing into a white Audi, reported Nevada Highway Patrol. The incident was the first fatal wrong-way crash of 2020.
The owner of the Audi was identified as 45-year-old Christopher Garcia by the Clark County Coroner’s Office and NHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Las Vegas Justice Court released a report that said Brawer initially denied drinking before driving but later admitted to drinking earlier that night. When NHP arrived on the scene, Brawer was trapped in the vehicle, conscious and talking.
During an interview at University Medical Center with NHP, Brawer stated, “I was driving drunk and I think I hit someone.” Brawer continued to tell the trooper, “I think I was on the wrong side of the road but I don’t know.” It was noted at the scene that Brawer’s speech was slurred with a “moderate odor” of alcohol.
When UMC staff attempted to draw blood for testing, Brawer was uncooperative and had to be restrained by NHP.
Brawer’s mugshot has yet to be released after she was booked in absentia. The court hearing was set for Jan. 27
