The Las Vegas police are investigating an incident where a child was run over by a car in a residential neighborhood in east Las Vegas on Monday.

Police said the incident occurred around 3:45 pm on Monday near the 6300 block of Pavestone Lane, near Charleston Boulevard and Tree Line Drive.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Captain Jeff Coday said the child is believed to be around 9-years old. Coday said in a statement the boy was “playfully’ racing his mother, driving the vehicle, back to their home when the boy tripped and was run over by the rear wheel of the vehicle.

LVMPD said the boy was transported to the trauma center at Sunrise Hospital in critical condition, before providing an update that the child had died.

This incident is still under investigation, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
