An elderly woman was killed in a car crash near Katie Avenue in Las Vegas.

The accident took place around 2:09 p.m. in the 3800 block of South Jones Boulevard, according to police.

Authorities said that a black Chevy Cruz heading south was speeding and hit a northbound black Hyundai Sonata. The Hyundai driver died at the site of the crash. The two other individuals involved sustained minor injuries and were delivered to University Medical Center.

The deceased victim was identified as Las Vegas resident, 74-year-old, Connie Sheets. It is unclear what caused the driver of the Chevrolet to veer into oncoming traffic.

The southbound lanes of Jones Boulevard were closed for a brief time during the investigation and cleanup, but have since reopened.

This tragic accident is still under active investigation.
