In a news release, Las Vegas police said that a green Ford Escape, driven by a 28-year-old Las Vegas man, was traveling north on North Lamb Boulevard near Alto Avenue when it struck a semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck, a 39-year-old Las Vegas man, was attempting to make a left turn when the incident occurred.
A passenger in the Ford Escape was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, while the driver was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. The 39-year-old semi-truck driver was not injured in the accident.
The passenger who died was later identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.
Police stated that the driver of the Ford Escape “displayed factors of impairment” and was “booked in absentia” at UMC. Police say the incident is still under investigation.
