If you’ve been hurt by recalled drugs, a pharmacy error, dangerous antidepressants, or risky asthma drugs, where can you turn for help? You may have trusted a drug to help you feel better but now your health is worse. If you had a bad drug reaction, there’s a good chance it may have happened to someone else too. Because there are time limits on filing a claim on a dangerous drug, don’t wait any longer to find out about your legal rights. Our lawyers have experience representing people hurt by all kinds of drugs, including dangerous drugs such as:

Byetta

Byetta (exenatide) is an injectable diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. The Food and Drug Administration has received reports of possible Pancreatitis, Pancreatic Cancer, Kidney/Renal failure, Kidney/Renal Cancer and Thyroid Cancer in patients taking Byetta. The FDA says some cases occurred in patients with pre-existing kidney disease or in patients with one or more risk factors for developing kidney problems.

Reglan

Reglan (metoclopramide hydrochloride) is used short-term to treat heartburn caused by gastroesophageal reflux in people who have used other medications without relief of symptoms. It is also used to treat nausea and vomiting. The Food and Drug Administration announced that manufacturers of metoclopramide, a drug used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, must add a boxed warning to their drug labels about the risk of its long-term or high-dose use. Chronic use of metoclopramide has been linked to tardive dyskinesia, which may include involuntary and repetitive movements of the body, even after the drugs are no longer taken.

Denture Creams like Poligrip and Fixodent

Poligrip and Fixodent are popular denture creams used by millions of Americans. But recent studies have shown these denture creams may contain large doses of zinc. Zinc is a necessary mineral in moderate amounts, but too much can lead to serious zinc poisoning side effects, including neurological disorders. Side effects of zinc poisoning include pain in the fingers and toes, loss of balance, loss of strength in arms and legs, and numbness or tingling in arms and hands.

Ortho Evra®

Since the Ortho Evra® birth control patch was FDA approved in November of 2001, a number of dangerous side effects have been reported, including fatal heart attacks and strokes. Deaths have been connected with patch use, in addition to dozens of nonfatal strokes and blood clots, according to consumer reports to the FDA.

Seroquel

Seroquel is marketed as a treatment for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety and sleep disorders. Antipsychotic drugs like Seroquel (quetiapine fumarate) have been found to cause extremely dangerous side effects, including diabetes and hypoglycemia. In some cases, these side effects have resulted in death. Seroquel has also been linked to pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is dangerous inflammation of the pancreas.

Zyprexa

Zyprexa can cause diabetes and diabetes-related complications including coma and death. To date, in the United States, Zyprexa is linked to many cases of diabetes, including deaths. Zyprexa has also been found to increase the risk of death by cardiac events or infections in elderly dementia patients.

Fosamax

Fosamax is an oral drug used in the treatment of osteoporosis (bone loss) in post-menopausal women; to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis; and to treat Paget’s Disease (a life-long chronic condition that results in abnormal bone growth).

Patients have reported bone death in their jaws after taking Fosamax. Most of these patients were taking potent, intravenously delivered forms of the drug. Additionally, some people who were taking the drug in pill form have suffered from such debilitating pain that they have become bedridden or in need of walkers, crutches or wheelchairs.

Digitek

The heart medication Digitek has been recalled nationwide. If you have suffered serious injuries from taking Digitek, call Bernstein & Associates immediately. You can also fill out our online request page and someone from our office will contact you immediately.

Levaquin

Levaquin (generic levofloxacin) is a powerful, prescription antibiotic made by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical that has been linked to an increased risk of tendon ruptures, tendonitis, and other serious injuries.

Tendons can rupture quickly, within hours of taking Levaquin, or may take weeks to develop. In some cases, patients feel pain and notice swelling or bruising in the area of the tendon, but some patients report seeing no symptoms of problems before they are injured.

Yasmin/Yaz Contraceptive

Lawsuits were filed against Bayer after a series of reports were released linking Yasmin/Yaz to several deaths nationwide. Some of these cases were fatal; complications included such serious effects as stroke and heart attacks. The complications were caused by different factors, but one of the most notable interactions between the contraceptive and women’s bodies was the presence of high levels of potassium. These raised levels are potentially dangerous for women with preexisting conditions such as diabetes, obesity, chronic high blood pressure, renal (kidney) conditions, history of stoke, or deep vein thrombosis. More often than not, women were unaware or unwarned of the potentially serious side effects.

Pradaxa

The drug Pradaxa is used as a blood-thinner. A problem found in Pradaxa is that it makes natural clotting more difficult. Therefore, when a person taking Pradaxa begins to bleed, it becomes difficult to control. This is a common issue with blood-thinners. However, a lot of blood-thinners used in the past can be helped by Vitamin K, plasma, or other remedies. A Pradaxa bleed is considered much worse, because there is nothing known to help control it. Events such as this have even led to the death of some patients.

Other Dangerous Drugs

There are thousands of drugs on the market, and sometimes it takes months, even years, before we learn about their dangerous side effects. If you think you suffered a serious reaction to a dangerous drug, tell us about your drug injury. Just because you don’t see your drug listed doesn’t mean you don’t have a dangerous drug case.
When you take a drug prescribed by a doctor, it is usually assumed that the drug will help you recover from an illness or aid in the treatment of some medical condition. Some drugs, however, have dangerous side effects that can cause many more problems than they solve.
When a drug is developed, it is tested to make sure it does not cause dangerous side effects. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) may still approve the drug as long as the dangerous side effects do not occur too often.

You can go to the FDA’s website to see if a drug has been recalled and get more information: www.fda.gov.
