UNLV basketball recruit Zaon Collins faces charges of felony DUI resulting in death and reckless driving after a deadly crash on December 30th, 2020.
The 19-year-old basketball player was traveling 85 miles per hour in a posted 35 miles per hour limit zone when he collided with another vehicle. Collins also tested positive for 3.0 ng/ML of THC (Marijuana) at the scene of the accident, which is considered legally impaired.
The extreme speed and force of the crash led to the tragic death of another Las Vegas resident, 52-year-old Eric Echevarria.
If convicted of charges, Collins faces 2 – 20 years in prison for the DUI charge and 1 – 6 years in prison for the reckless driving charge.
The preliminary hearing is set for February 17th, 2021.
