Traffic and pedestrian accidents
Last Thursday, a pedestrian was killed on the I-15 south near mile marker 11 at around 3:30 p.m. Nevada Highway Patrol said the pedestrian was struck by a semi-truck. The evening before, sixty-seven-year-old Alicia Coronado was hit by a car while jaywalking near Nellis Boulevard in northeast Las Vegas. She was transported to University Medical Center, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. Her death is the seventh traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas this year. For more information about the accident, please visit: (https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/las-vegas/las-vegas-woman-67-dies-injuries-after-being-struck-monday-while-jaywalking). Our deepest condolences go to the friends and families of the victims.
New construction
The good news is that Las Vegas will soon have a series of digital signs to display information about traffic accidents and construction detours. The bad news is that there will be some lane closures as the construction signs are constructed. The Casino Center Boulevard onramp to northbound U.S. 95 is officially closed from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m., nightly. This will continue until February 10. This work is in addition to the closure of the carpool lanes on the U.S. 95 between Decatur and Rancho that is ongoing until March 31.
Please exercise caution in these areas!
Something to tell your friends about
On January 10, 2017, the launch of the pilot program for an autonomous (driverless) shuttle took place. The program ran for 10 days and seemed to go very smoothly. The shuttle carried 15 people and although it did not need a driver, each one was equipped with an operator who acted as a greeter and provided information about downtown to the passengers. While permanent funding is still being hashed out, we do know that the goal of the shuttle would be to provide safe transportation between the Fremont East Entertainment District and areas like the Mob Museum, the Premium Outlets, the Medical District, and the Arts District.
