Vegas Man Turns Himself in After Killing Pedestrian in Fatal Incident Metro Police received a report at 7:04 p.m. that a pedestrian was struck by a car. Charles Waid, 77, was found dead near Tropicana Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive on the evening of October 4th. 21-year-old Las Vegas citizen, Jalen Thomas, turned himself in to authorities after leaving the deadly incident. Thomas was then arrested for failure to stop at the scene of an incident, as well as DUI resulting in death.  According to the report, Jalen left the scene “to see his daughter one last time before he went to jail” before arriving back at the scene at 7:42 p.m. Thomas reported to officers that he was heading west on Tropicana and changed lanes from the center lane to the left, as was the car in front of him. The car in front of him quickly changed lanes again and that’s when he saw “an older man in front of him”. Thomas’ Kia Cadenza struck Waid and sent him to the ground. Police obtained a blood sample from Thomas and conducted a field sobriety test prior to his arrest. Thomas posted bail on October 5th and is due back in court October 12, according to court records.   “Car accidents are on the rise in the Las Vegas area.
