A 15-year-old pedestrian died Monday night after a hit-and-run accident in the East Valley, said Las Vegas police.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Morris near Nellis Boulevard. According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Gordon, the pedestrian was crossing Tropicana when he was struck by a red 2002 Acura MDX. Tropicana was closed in both directions from Sacks to Nellis while police investigated the scene.
A release from LVMPD states the pedestrian, identified as a 15-year-old boy, was in the marked crosswalk when he was hit. The driver was identified as a 34-year-old woman who left the scene and did not attempt to render aid or call the police.
Workers in a Community Ambulance nearby witnessed the incident and contacted police, LVMPD said.
The victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died. The driver was taken into custody by LVMPD just after midnight on Tuesday. According to jail records, she faces charges for failing to yield to a pedestrian and duty to stop at the scene of an accident. The first court hearing was set for Tuesday afternoon.
