A hit-and-run crash Friday morning caused the death of a pedestrian, while two others suffered minor injuries.
Lt. Frank Humel of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said that the incident happened around 4:26 a.m. near La Canada Street and Desert Inn Road.
The pedestrians were waiting at a bus stop when they were struck by a silver 2004 Saturn Vue, said Humel.
According to a release, “The Saturn veered left, crossed the center median and all eastbound lanes then struck the south curbing and onto the sidewalk where the three pedestrians were standing. The front left of the Saturn struck a brick wall and began to rotate counter-clockwise. It then struck a light pole knocking it to the ground. The Saturn then struck the three pedestrians.”
The suspect approached the injured pedestrians, police said, but then fled the area after seeing the extent of their injuries.
One pedestrian in critical condition was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where they later died. The police investigated Desert Inn while it was closed between Eastern Avenue and Maryland Parkway. This marks the 36th traffic-related fatality in 2020.
