Community Activities from April 18th to April 23rd in Las Vegas Valley In the community April 18: The College of Liberal Arts' University Forum lecture series presents "What is “Baroque” About Baroque Music?" a talk by Jonathan Rhodes Lee, assistant professor, UNLV. The free lecture is offered in conjunction with the Las Vegas Baroque Festival, presented by the UNLV School of Music April 20–23, 2017. Catch Dr. Lee at the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum at 7:30pm. April 19: The UNLV Football Foundation, founded to enhance the university’s football program, is hosting a golf tournament at the Spanish Trail Country Club from 12:30-6:30 pm. Also, Yvette Auger's Cosmopolitan Connections is presenting "The Tax Refund Special Tarot Readings & Networking Event!" at the Parkway Tavern in Tivoli Village from 7pm until 9pm. Parking and admission are free and the first 145 guests will receive free party favors. April 20: There will be a free bird walk, beginning at 7am, at the Hualapai Canyon Trailhead (access just north of Alta Dr. on Hualapai Way). The president of the Red Rock Audubon Society, Doug Chang, will be joining the walk to share his bird-watching expertise. April 21: The two-day cannabis education event, the “High in the Sky Expo & Festival” will be taking place 4/21-4/23 inside of the LINQ Hotel & Casino. The event will include marijuana education, a vendor expo, seminars, comedy, music concerts, rides on the high roller, Zumba, line dancing, and more! This Earth Day celebration will have 150 exhibitors displaying products and offering information on clean energy, green homes and buildings, smart energy, sustainable living, and more. The event coincides with Summerlin Wellness Weekend which is happening from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 2pm on Sunday. Over these two days, one can expect to hear speakers talk about health screenings, skin cancer, cardiac/stroke issues, adult CPR, blood pressure checks, breast cancer, balance screenings, senior exercise, scoliosis screening, meditation, breastfeeding, and more. There will also be an interactive tent for children. April 23: The World Congress Cat Show is coming to the Rio Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, in the Amazon Ballroom, from 9am to 4pm. Visitors can find the perfect gift for any animal lover in the “meow mall”.
