A man wanted on a warrant in Oregon for domestic violence charges was arrested on the evening of April 28 in Nevada after he ran a red light and hit another car, killing a 6-year-old child.
Reno police officers attempted to pull over Jesse Allen Bennett, 33, of Eugene before he attempted to escape and crashed into another car in a Reno intersection.
The car struck the side of another vehicle that was carrying the 6-year-old child, who sadly passed away.
Following the crash, Barrett attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended. A passenger in his car who also fled remains at large.
According to police, Barrett was jailed on an Oregon warrant as well as Nevada DUI, felon in possession of a firearm, and other crimes.
The Oregon charges against Bennett included attempted kidnapping, strangulation constituting domestic violence, assault constituting domestic violence, and failure to comply with terms of probation.
