Impaired Truck Driver Kills Passenger on Nevada Highway Near Las Vegas A truck driver has been accused of driving under the influence and causing a crash that resulted in the death of a passenger earlier this month. According to court records, the driver of the truck was booked on counts of reckless driving, failure to decrease speed and driving under the influence resulting in death. According to a statement from the highway patrol, on June 10th, troopers for the Nevada Highway Patrol were called around 10:30 a.m. to State Route 160, southwest of Las Vegas. The caller reported a white Western Star tractor trailer was overturned in the rocks on the shoulder of the highway. The passenger of the truck, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. After an interview was conducted, the driver claimed his brakes started giving out while he was driving 25 mph, so he steered the truck into the rocks in an attempt to slow it down. The driver also stated that he “smoked marijuana every day” and that he had smoked the night before the wreck. Nevada State Troopers reported that he failed multiple field sobriety tests and showed signs of drug impairment.  The driver was booked into the Clark County Detention Center that day, although court records show that he was released on June 16 and was prohibited from driving. At this time, he has still not been formally charged.     “Car accidents are on the rise in the Las Vegas area. At Edward M Bernstein and Associates, we take these accidents seriously.
