Wrong-way Driving Results in One Death on I-15 Dec. 3, 2019 Wrong-way Driving Results in One Death on I-15 A fatality occurred from a wrong-way driving accident on northbound Interstate 15 near downtown Las Vegas early in the morning of Tuesday, December 3, 2019. At 3:30 am, a driver in a silver Jeep was heading southbound on the northbound highway, resulting in a head-on collision with an Amazon trailer around the off-ramp of the Charleston Boulevard exit. This caused the Amazon trailer to collide with a UPS semitrailer. The motorist of the silver Jeep died at the scene of the accident. The Amazon trailer driver suffered injuries and was transported to University Medical Center. The injuries are not life-threatening. The UPS semitrailer driver and passenger remained at the scene and were not injured. All lanes of northbound I-15 were shut down at Sahara Ave, creating a large traffic jam until the afternoon. According to the Highway Patrol, cleaning up the crash site and repairing the damage this crash caused to the highway was a significant undertaking. The lanes reopened at 1:30 pm.  According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, between 2005 and 2015, 409 crashes reported to have been caused by driving the wrong way, resulting in 75 deaths.
